Reports are coming in on yet another missing plane, this one that took off from the West African region of, Ouagadougou, Burkina, Faso. The Air Algerie flight AH5017 suddenly dropped off radar according to airline operator, the plane’s status is now listed as ‘whereabouts unknown.’
The flight AH5017 disengaged with radar contact about 50 miles from takeoff, prior everything was clear.
The plane was scheduled to arrive at Algiers’ Houari Boomediene Airport approximately four hours later. The missing plane is described as an MD-83, it had 110 passengers, two pilots, and four crew members.
The Spanish company, Swiftair operates the plane for Air Algerie, according to Swiftiar they have no contact with the plane, and are vigorously searching for it now! They are saying their emergency crews are in place now, formally investigating the whereabouts of the plane and it’s passengers.
APS quoted the airline as saying, “In keeping with procedures, Air Algerie has launched its emergency plan, ”
Speaking to reporters French army spokesman Gilles Jaron said “Two Mirage 2000 jets based in Africa were dispatched to try to locate the Air Algerie plane that disappeared on Thursday, They will search an area from its last known destination along its probable route.”
The worst tragedy involving this airline occurred in 2003 when a domestic flight, crashed on takeoff killing 102 passengers, one person survived. There was also a crash in February of this year, that killed 78 passengers. The airline has flights to 28 different countries.
Exactly a week ago, Malaysia Airline flight 17 was brought down by a surface to air missile killing all 298 people on board. The bodies of most of those passengers were brought to the Netherlands for burial yesterday.
